About

The Baby Boomer generation – people born between 1946 and 1964 – are currently (April 2009) the fastest growing demographic group in the USA in online social networks.

This site looks at that phenomenon and what it means in terms of the evolution and application of social media.

It’s called Boomer Connections:

  • how Boomers connect online
  • ways Boomers can connect and be connected with online, more effectively
  • ways other generation groups can connect effectively with Boomers online

Some of the topics we explore are:

  • what to do and not do in using social media to market to Boomers
  • how Boomers approach and relate to social networking and social media
  • resistance by some Boomers to utilizing social media and social networks
  • how Boomer can use social networking and social media more effectively, especially for careers and business

We look too at what that all means – or doesn’t mean – in terms of the rest of the world where generational classifications may be different, with different data frameworks and a need for different strategies from what works in the USA and other developed countries in the West. For example, in an update to a recent research report on online developments in China, Forrester Research said it had decided to drop the use of the generational labels used freely in the West – Gen Y, Gen X, Baby Boomers – as they were not helpful in describing what is happening in that part of the world.

Should keep us busy.
